Samenvatting

Something is rummaging among the leaves. Something small. Something prickly. A hedgehog, on its way through a world that is changing ever faster. In this book you follow the lives of hedgehogs in the Netherlands, from January to December, in places that you may know yourself: a backyard, a vacant lot, an orchard or a holiday park. Each chapter tells the story of a different hedgehog, in a unique location, in a different month – realistic, moving and written with love. The hedgehogs in this book are fictional, but what they experience is real. Traffic, petrification, drought, disappearing insects: these are problems that hedgehogs have to deal with every day. Through their eyes you get to know their world – and their vulnerability. You can read this book as you like: per month, per hedgehog year, or just whenever you feel like it. In between you will find hedgehog facts, gardening tips and ideas to do something yourself for the hedgehogs in your neighborhood. For nature lovers aged 12 and over, dreamers and anyone who wants to stop and think about what shuffles through the grass at night.

Over Judith Dunkirk

Judith Dunkirk
Judith Dunkirk is a writer and passionate hedgehog specialist. She lives in the North of The Netherlands, where she observes nature every day and works on creating more biodiversity. As an independent researcher and founder of The Hedgehog Program, she shares her knowledge about the lives of hedgehogs in The Netherlands. With this book, she brings together her love of nature, stories and education in accessible and poetic chapters, suitable for young and old. When she is not writing or doing fieldwork, she makes products from natural materials or wanders through forests - always looking for a quiet rustle between the bushes.
