Vincent's search for his true identity

Vincent Postma is the youngest son in a family of five children. He has two sisters: Annet and Ellen. And two brothers: Joost and Johan. Joost is in the navy and is often away from home for months. Johan is the oldest and no longer lives at home. He is married to Lucy and works for a carpenter. Ellen is thirteen years old and is still in school. Annet is sixteen years old and has recently started working at a spinning mill in Germany. Just like Annet and Ellen, Vincent does not have an easy time at home. His parents are money-hungry people. That is why Annet has to give every penny she earns to her parents. The same fate awaits Ellen and Vincent. Apart from the fact that the children are exploited, they are regularly humiliated and beaten. Johan knows how things are with his parents, after all, he has been through the same thing. Yet he does not dare to stand up for his brother and sisters. When Vincent is almost eighteen, he makes a well-considered decision that will turn the rest of his life upside down.
