The author walked the Tour du Mont Blanc with his Alaskan malamute Yurok in the summer of 1990, crossed the French Jura with his sled dog team in December of the same year, and walked the Camino Primitivo with his Rhodesian ridgeback Goof in the summer of 2019. The special role these dogs have played in the author's life is the subject of three non-fiction stories. Three stories with portraits of Yurok, Iljaq and Goof in words and pictures.

Johann van Rossum (1948) was veertig jaar docent in biologie, verzorging, handel & administratie, zorg & welzijn en technologie aan een vmbo-school. Freelance-illustrator. Was vijfentwintig jaar actief in de sledehondensport en sportklimmen; is een enthousiast handboogschutter en zeekayakker.
