Civil war has raged over the kingdom of Magerra for many years. Niandra is an extraordinary girl from a village of Thieves. She has the appearance of a Scutter though and is accustomed to distrust. When she is accused of a man's murder, she flees to the capital with her cousin Sillin and a friendly Haeler. After all, Niandra is one of the few who knows that the king is in danger and she must convey him a message personally no matter the cost.
