Cultural analyst Harm Timmerman argues that the dominant ideology of the West is Romantic-Marxist in character: a fusion of nineteenth-century Romanticism and Marxism that went mainstream in the 1960s and has since colonized every institution of Western society. Through Gramsci's Long March Through the Institutions, that ideology achieved cultural hegemony — to the point where it is no longer recognized as ideology at all.
Drawing on memetics, cultural history, and the myth of Osiris, Seth and Horus, the book maps twelve defining characteristics — six Romantic, six Marxist — showing how they manifest across every domain of contemporary life: from climate extremism and the disrupted sexual marketplace, to anti-Christianity and the permanent rhetoric of victimhood.

About Harm Timmerman
Harm N. Timmerman (Delfzijl 29 juli 1971) is een Nederlands Brits musicoloog, Hbo-docent en Mentor. Onder de naam Freestone heeft hij The Temple of Humanity uitgebracht, een conceptalbum met populaire muziek, teksten en artwork geïnspireerd op de vrijmetselarij. Timmerman heeft de productie, compositie en een deel van de instrumentatie voor rekening genomen. Na popmuziek te hebben gestudeerd aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam en muziekfilosofie aan de Universiteit van Leiden heeft hij Muziekwetenschap aan de Universiteit Utrecht gestudeerd.
Als hbo-docent en musicoloog is hij werkzaam geweest bij onder meer de opleiding Media & Entertainment Management en Creative Business aan NHL Stenden Hogeschool en is hij verbonden aan de Academie voor Popcultuur van de Hanzehogeschool.
Vanuit zijn Mentorpraktijk Mentoring for Mastery geeft hij advies op het gebied van studie- en beroepskeuze en begeleidt hij studenten en werkende mensen op het gebied van levensoriëntatie. Hij werkt met een effectief mentorprogramma gebaseerd op inzichten uit de cultuurwetenschappen, filosofie en psychologie. Harm is gitarist en speelt viool.
