Samenvatting
How to design the load bearing structure? What kind of foundation does a building need? How to apply materials like steel and concrete?
After moving from Octatube to Arup, I’ve learned what the role is of the main structural engineer of a building. This booklet contains 100 personal learning points of my first two years at Arup. From general information about Arup to rules of thumb for dimensioning of structural elements and reinforcement detailing.
Chris Noteboom graduated in 2012 at the Technical University in Eindhoven where he combined the masters Structural Design and Architecture. He started working at Octatube, a specialized contractor in mainly glass structures. After nearly 4 years he moved to Arup (Amsterdam). Arup is an international consultancy and engineering firm, founded in 1946 by Ove Arup in London. Arup made its name in the twentieth century as the designer and engineer behind some of the world’s most ambitious structures and employs more than 13,000 people, in more than 35 countries – in a culture underpinned by Sir Ove Arup’s aims and values.
