The times she lodged in mental hospitals were terrible experiences, torture. Of course no cure. Her situation/condition worsened. She was 16 when her mother decided she had to go away. WINK is a deeply moving book of poetry and prose that reflects on the life, trials and tribulations of its author. A unique kind of biography. Willy Lindwer Emmy Award for the "Last seven months of Anne Frank" made a movie about the gruesome life of Miss Croiset. She turned into an activist in spite of her bad constitution because of her tormented life for justice in every atrocity, especially medical errors.
Over Manja Croiset
Manja Croiset is een dochter van Shoah-overlevenden. Ze is de jongste van drie dochters. Haar moeder Paula Kool (1918-2012) was Joods en verloor haar hele familie. Haar vader Odo Croiset (1915-2011) zat in diverse kampen wegens illegaal drukwerk.
Na de lagere school bezocht Manja Croiset het Barlaeus Gymnasium. Ze kwam, als tweedegeneratieslachtoffer, op jonge leeftijd in de psychiatrie terecht. Ze verbleef vele jaren in psychiatrische inrichtingen. Daarover is ze op haar zestigste gaan publiceren. Ze is negen jaar werkzaam geweest bij het Leidsch Dagblad.
Er is een film over haar leven gemaakt door de documentairemaker Willy Lindwer. Deze ging in première op 24 februari 2014 in EYE in Amsterdam.
De schrijfster heeft de grammaticale vorm onverwerkt verleden tijd ingevoerd, zowel de film als haar boek Mijn leven achter onzichtbare tralies worden hiermee geopend. Eveneens heeft de dichteresmet Bloemlezing of rouwkrans en Prozee als synoniem van lyrisch proza de Nederlandse taal verrijkt. De eigen schrijfstijl benoemd als: idiosyncrasie, medisch jargon. Gaandeweg haar loopbaan heeft ze zich ontwikkeld tot woordcartoonist.
